Movie Review: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

I was sooooo looking forward to this movie. I love Arthurian stories, even ones that are slightly modified from the the original lore.

This was not anywhere remotely an Arthurian movie. It was however an awesome fantasy movie if you ignore the hints to the legend.

Okay, it had some of the major players, Uther, Arthur, Mordred and the Lady of the Lake. And the sword gets pulled from the stone, but that’s where the similarities end.

The opening of the movie made me question if somewhere the DVD got switched. It was like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones had a baby.

I was a bit impressed with the casting. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) played Arthur. The whole movie is worth it just to watch him.

The other actor I was thrilled to see was Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones). I love listening to him talk. He has a unique style and sound that is interesting. I wasn’t so impressed with his fighting abilities, though.

Special Effects

For the most part they were amazing. There were a couple points during fight scenes that could have used some polish.

The story was odd. It’s set in a fantasy world that is way over the top. Uther is killed by a demon and Arthur is raised in a brothel where know one knows this real identity. A power hungry dude who took over Uther’s position is out of to find Arthur and kill him before he can fullfill the legand. The rest of the story is Arthur’s battle against the demon who killed his father and his reluctance to accept his rightful place as king.

Overall, fun movie. Worth watching.
