For the past few months I have been working from the time I get up in the morning until I go to bed at night and sometimes when I’m sleeping. (Yeah, don’t ask.)
I’m about worn out.
My back hurts from putting furniture together and moving boxes and totes of office supplies and clothes at Mary’s Choice. I spent most of Friday and Sunday there. The work there is a never ending job, but after 2 years, the office is almost organized. The clothes…ugh. That is more like a week long project just to catch up on all of the donations.
With Christmas getting closer, there are things that need to be done to get ready for our gift shop. And we have coats that need put out and on and on and on. I suspect I’ll be spending quite a few weekends there in December.
The manual labor is a nice change from computer work, which takes up the majority of my time. And just when I think I’m catching up, more work comes my way.
I should probably take a week or two off before the end of the year, but I have too much stuff still to do. Besides my brain wouldn’t let me. Yesterday I woke up making a to-do list in my head. Most of it was forgotten shortly afterward, because, well I’m at the point that to-do’s have to be written down to be remembered.
At some point I will burn out and need a break. It happened last year after doing the legwork for a large grant. I took several months off of working. Took a vacation and then took more time off. This year doesn’t seem to be quite so bad, but I really don’t want to get to that point. So, I may have to figure out how to slow down a bit and take a night off or two to just read, relax or crawl into bed early.
