Pre – Star Wars: The Force Awakens Prep, Part 3

The Return of the Jedi is the last of the original Star Wars movies and my last bit of homework before seeing the Force Awakens.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

It starts out with C3PO and R2D2 entering the bizarre world of Jabba’s palace. It’s reminds me too much of a Jim Henson muppets freak show. And miracles of miracles, all the main players end up at the palace in various ways with what seems to be the intention of freeing Han Solo.

Enter a more mature and trained Luke who has the Jedi mind trick down at this point. Luke has not aged well since the last movie. He looks old. Far older than he should in only six years.

The rescue attempt of Han fails. I’m still trying to figure out how all of those critters hid long enough to wait for Leia to free Han and try to escape. Seems far fetched.

Fast forward a bit to Endor and I could swear I was in the middle of a Quiddich game, only without the brooms or the ball.

The special effects have improved since the last movie, but the storyline seems to wander off in spots. The Ewoks are cute and all, but I’m not figuring out what their purpose is other than to be cute distractions.

The fight between Luke and Vader took forever. I was actually getting bored. And I don’t get the logic off all anger being from the dark side. That makes no sense to me, since there is a thing as righteous anger.

Okay…I was not expecting Vader to save Luke or for Vader to change so drastically. Not convincing at all.

Not a bad movie over all, but I liked the The Empire Strikes Back the best.
