I’ve been working on covers for my YA futuristic series. Book One – Path of Angels is in the editing stages and is planned to be released in October 2015 if everything goes as planned.
I started out trying to use Pixlr and PicMonkey to play with a few covers. They were okay. Nothing spectacular.
I really didn’t like the first two. They look like my book was pulled from the clearance rack of a store that had books left over from the 80’s or earlier. I liked the color effect on the angel on try number three, but overall there was too much black and the wording just didn’t stand out enough.
So, I sucked it up and worked with Gimp. Gimp takes some work to learn, but the results are much better. This is what I ultimately settled on:
Trust me, you don’t want to see what my other tries looked like. Did I mention that Gimp takes some work to learn? Thank God for tutorials and forums with lots of lovely people who know what they are doing.
What do you think?
